ZUNI FETISH CARVING ART

Zuni Pueblo artisans carve tiny animal fetishes (bears, wolves, mole, mountain lion, eagle – the six directions guardians) from turquoise, jet, shell and marble, often with inlaid eyes and an offering bundle. These portable sacred objects, an inclusive Southwest heritage art, provide protection and connection to nature’s spirit helpers, and are collected worldwide for their beauty and mystique.
