ROTUMAN MASI ART

On Rotuma, a Polynesian outlier in Fiji, women make masi barkcloth and decorate it with freehand geometric and figurative motifs in soot and red clay. Often created for weddings and ceremonies, Rotuman masi is an inclusive cultural heritage linking this small island to the wider Oceanic tapa tradition.
