NAVAJO SAND PAINTING ART

Navajo iikááh sandpaintings, created on the ground with colored sand and pulverized minerals during healing ceremonies, depict Holy People, lightning, and sacred corn pollen paths. After the chant, they’re destroyed to complete the ritual. This ephemeral art, now sometimes preserved in art form, is an inclusive Diné heritage—spiritual medicine in granular form, its aesthetic power recognized worldwide.
