MAYA CODEX ILLUMINATION

The Maya codices (e.g. Dresden Codex), folding bark-paper books, feature hieroglyphic texts and images of gods, astronomy tables, and rituals painted in blues, reds, and blacks. Though only a few survived, they represent an inclusive Classic Maya heritage art—sophisticated, mathematical, and spiritual—bridging the earthly and celestial in a painted tapestry of time.
