Cambodian ikat silk weaving (hol) nearly vanished under the Khmer Rouge, but now young weavers, including those at Artisans Angkor, innovate with new color palettes and patterns inspired by Angkor Wat bas-reliefs (Apsara dancers, naga serpents). By marrying ancient technique with fresh vision, this contemporary Khmer ikat is an inclusive cultural resurgence, bringing global attention to Cambodia’s rich silk legacy and its ongoing revival as a symbol of resilience.
